What do over 4.3 million words, 5,448 blog posts, 53 contributors, and 813 guest writers add up to? The answer is ten. Ten years of (in)courage! (Insert party balloons and chocolate cupcakes!) While the numbers are impressive, they don’t begin to truly capture what a decade in this online home has meant.
What does it mean to build bridges of community through the power of shared stories? How can you quantify the significance of pulling back the layers of pretense and creating a space to come as you are, to be real about the joy and heartache of life and faith?
Long before I joined the behind-the-scenes team at (in)courage, I was a reader. I pulled up my virtual chair and drank in the stories like soul nourishment. And can I confess? My heart sometimes skipped a beat when my favorite writers would reply to my comments. Why? Because it is a gift to feel seen. It is a gift when two hearts connect over threads of common experience, shared wrestling, or mutual blessing. I hope you have felt this here before too.
Last week, Robin Dance beautifully captured who (in)courage is and where we have been these last ten years. If you haven’t read it, you’ll want to! A decade of blogging basically makes us the grandmas of the internet. And, wow, God has done so much in this lifetime of online living.
While birthdays can make me feel sweetly sappy and nostalgic for the past, they are also a catalyst for forward-thinking. Like flickering candles, birthdays spark hope and excitement for what’s ahead.
Friends, there is so much bright life ahead for (in)courage!
We started 2019 with a Call to Courage. We put a stake in the ground and claimed: We will be empowered by the strength Jesus gives to be women of courage and live out our calling as God’s daughters.
We’ve done this through our everyday showing up in blog posts and comments, testifying to God’s goodness, and standing shoulder-to-shoulder in prayer when simply saying “I see you” is the greatest gift a sister can give. We’ve linked arms with thousands of sisters around the world through our Women of Courage Bible study and most recently through our Summer (in) the Psalms Bible reading challenge.
At the end of each opportunity, we kept hearing that you want more. We read your survey results, your comments, emails, and direct messages. You’re asking for more resources, more Scripture, more Jesus. We’re listening and nodding in enthusiastic agreement!
We want you to know that (in)courage will always have something for you. We are in it for the long haul to continue providing you with timely, relevant, and meaningful resources that will help you connect with other women of courage, lean deeper into Jesus, and boldly live your faith.
This fall, we’re thrilled to bring you a new forty-day devotional aptly called Women of Courage.
This beautiful, hardcover book will introduce you to forty inspiring examples of what it looks like to love and follow God on both ordinary days and in extravagant ways no matter the cost. Women of Courage takes you deep into Scripture and the stories of women who were loved and cared for by God. Prepare to be empowered by God, who gives you strength and courage, by spending time with some incredible women in His Word. (Women of Courage will be available October 8, but you can preorder it now!)
And that’s just one of the many new resources we can’t wait to share with you!
Speaking of you, did you know that YOU are the heartbeat of (in)courage? Our wonderful (in)courage and DaySpring staff and our twenty-six amazing contributors show up here for you. We think of you and pray for you and ask God for wisdom in how to best serve you. We don’t take it for granted for one minute that you choose this place to invest your heart and time. We’re grateful every time a woman says yes to letting us slide courage daily into her email box. We count every blog and Instagram comment as a gift. They tells us that stories matter — ours and yours and the grandest one the Great Story-writer is weaving through us all.
So we want to celebrate our 10th birthday by celebrating YOU!
- First, we’d love for you to help us throw some virtual confetti by sharing your own (in)courage story in the comments. How did you find (in)courage? What has this community meant to you?
- Second, birthdays are always the perfect time for presents! We’ll choose five winners from the comments to receive a $100 DaySpring shopping spree*! Woohoo! [giveaway now closed]
So go ahead and tell us what you love about (in)courage. We can’t wait to read your stories! You can also share your favorite (in)courage memory on social media. Tag us (@incourage) and use #happy10incourage, and we’ll share a few of your stories throughout this tenth birthday season!
